About Change in the Wind

Purpose of the Site

CHANGEINTHEWIND.CA aims to help Bible-believing Christians work toward the future. The long-term goal is reformation of all of life to reflect the kingship of Jesus Christ in the world. The short-term goal is to help equip believers in understanding the general shape of the future we ought to aim for, as well as to assist in encouraging them to work toward that future by way of faithful service. The legitimate way for believers to gain authority has always been by way of loving service, through which they seek the peace and welfare of the communities into which they have been placed.

Presuppositions

CHANGEINTHWIND.CA is not a generic "faith-community" site. The articles and discussions here rest on the presupposition that (1) God is the Creator and Sustainer of the world; (2) that God is all-powerful and all-wise, and His will is beneficient, and consequently, ignoring or disobeying Him is counterproductive to the cause of true liberty and happiness; (3) the Bible is God's Word, and gives us the necessary foundation for wisdom to live as a truly human society.

Why "Change in the Wind"?

The biblical text appended to the top of each page is drawn from the account of Ezekiel's vision of the valley of dry bones. This vision represented the corporate "death" of Israel, suffering both from literal exile and estrangement from her God. God instructs Ezekiel to prophesy to the "wind" - which could also be translated as "breath" or "Spirit." (In both the major original language of Scripture, the same word refers to all three.) When Ezekiel so prophesies, he sees the bones become covered with flesh, the corpses regain life, and this new army returning to its land.

The idea of "Change in the Wind" is that genuine change that will be of actual and long-term benefit is dependent upon the action of God's own Spirit, the divine Breath who brings true life to the communities of men. Such change will therefore not be the result of a charismatic figure, an idealized system, or a blood-and-soil nationalism. It will come about by God's own work of grace through His Spirit.

Faces

CHANGEINTHEWIND.CA is the brainchild of Tim Gallant, a 40-something born at the tail end of the Baby Boom. Born and raised in Western Canada, Mr Gallant graduated in 2000 with an M.Div from Mid-America Reformed Seminary in Dyer, Indiana, and is the author of numerous books and dozens of articles on issues ranging from biblical studies to theology to music to social, economic, and political affairs.

Mr Gallant serves as an elder in Christ Covenant Church of Grande Prairie, Alberta. His goal is to involve other thinking Christians who will share a Bible-shaped vision to serve God and neighbour in submission to the coming kingdom of Jesus Christ.
